I searched for this in Frank Andrews Scottish makers list but didn't find it. I thought it may fill a gap in Scottish Glass history as well as informing myself. My late father was a mens hairdresser in Leicester from the 60's to the late 80's. Amongst his things I found a clear glass block. It measures approx 19cm lg, 5cm wide and about 1.5cm thick. At the top end it has an oval 'watermark' reading: 'FERGO-GLASS' above, and 'RAZOR HONE' below. In the centre of the oval it reads 'Special Process'. At the bottom of the block it reads: D FERGUSON & Co GLASGOW.
Would any of you experts out there be able to shed any more light on this?

No leads on any of those names, chances are that Ferguson are not glassmakers. But not giving up to easily. If anyone is in Scotland and can get to companies house, perhaps they can look up and find out what business Ferguson were in and when.

Can you add pictures including close-ups of the wording please.

Many Thanks Dexter

I am frequently surprised at the number of specialist sites out there! I had previously searched the net but didn't spot stropper.com. I have submitted a query to that site to see if they have any info.

A quick phone call to Companies House elicits an address for D Ferguson & Sons Ltd., as 10 Lowndes St, Barrhead, Glasgow (premises now occupied by a totally different business - a window cleaning firm.)  Date of incorporation of the business 26 March 1925, ceased 16 September 1986. Nothing freely available to say what the firm did. Last company report filed 1985 may give details of what they did but will cost £3 for a copy, and it may not tell us anything useful.

Date range is good, and it is almost certainly not a glass company. Perhaps hair-dressers suppliers. . .
