Mystery Piece of Pressed Glass Rd 92571?
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:04:39 PM »
Just a small piece of pressed glass , not really important, had it for about a year and thought I had ID it as Davidson, has a RD No 92571 but that does not seem to exist, the number is very clear and no doubt as to 92571, the R of the Rd is backwards which is not uncommon, I have tried the number in various ways to see if any may be wrong such as 9 could be 6 or if there is a number missing from the front or at the end but seem to be come up blank each time , I sure the piece will be quite easy to ID and would be interested to know the correct RD No , unless it is correct

I have a copy of " The Identification of English Pressd Glass 1842-1902 " by Jenny Thompson, on page 142 it reads, Rd No 92571 30 January 1887 J. Stembridge & Co, Holborn. Importers  Pattern table decoration - lamp, not sure if this is of any help unless anyone knows about this importer, nice piece, I collect Davidson from your photo this is in a colour very much like there's without the Rd No my first guess would have been Davidson.

Hi Tony

Sorry for not replying, not sure from what you are saying do you think its not British made but imported, I do not know anything about them, to me it looks English made, I know I have seen French made vases with Rd No for British retailers , so this item may be similar

regards roy

J Stembridge & Co would have acted as agents and taken out a Brtish registration on behalf of a glass manufacture most likely from Europe, the maker may be hard to find but if you can find this firm or something about them it may help.
