Paperweights by Schneider Glass (France)
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:52:33 PM »
http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250096406653 shows a paperweight signed "Schneider".

In the article on Schneider Glass, however, no paperweights are mentioned.

Did this Schneider Glass in France also make paperweights - or are the paperweights from a different studio (with Schneider being a very common name in German speaking areas)?

It's a Murano weight.
I have several Muranos with faux 'Schneider' acid etched signatures.
The signatures are extremely faint too.

Genuine signatures are faint too, helps when it comes with the label. Also all of the designs in the Schneider catalogue are bubble abstracts.

I wonder if Mark was referring to the birds weight rather than the bubbled one.

The bubbled ones were made by Cristallerie Schneider, the post war company set up by Charles Schneider. These items were referred to as "crystal balls" not paperweights. And it has been suggested that Cristallerie Schneider was "the first, even before Daum, to launch the vogue for crystal balls". Info from the book, Schneider by Edith Mannoni.

I presume that he was. I was wondering if the bird was a transfer print but that involved cooling and reheating the blank?

Bit of a Schneider catalogue

Yes, I was referring to the  Birds  weight and when I say that faux Schneider signatures are faint when found on Murano weights, I mean that they are extreeeeeeeeeeemely faaaaaaaaint  :)
