Id of Large Old Victorian ? Jug
« on: March 25, 2007, 10:24:02 AM »
I bought this old jug at a car boot this morning, although quite dirty it just looked good quailty, its cleaned up perfect, my first thought is Victorian, its hand made with a polished pontil and the base does show quite a lot of ware, I did wonder if the etching or cutting was done at a later date, it stands 11" tall and weighs 1.2kgs, around the neck there are visible lines which I believe are called striation which I know can be found on early glass, I also wondered if the glass would glow under a UV light a little not sure as it was a little too light to tell although the base and handle did glow a soft green

Roy,
Thank you for the great new pictures.  Not a design I know off the top of my head but I'll check my books, the jug looks American to me.  But that doesn't mean it is!  ;D  I'll see what I can find.

This is driving me crazy, some would say not a far drive!   ;D  Could I use your pictures for our forum?  Maybe someone there can jog my memory.

Janice

Please feel free to use any pictures , thanks for all your help, I had sort of given up with the jug and mothballed it to the loft
