Amethyst carnival vase. Any thoughts?
« on: March 31, 2007, 07:22:06 AM »
My mother bought this rather beautiful amethyst carnival glass vase recently at a charity shop.
She was very happy to get it for a reasonable price & it's in perfect condition.
We think it might be Australian carnival, but as neither of us are experts in this area, & we aren't very certain of it's origins. It is a deep amethyst colour & the iridiscence is intense. The vase is 12.5 cm tall, & the flared rim is 17 cm across. The base is 8.7 cm across & features a star pattern.
She is interested to know where it was made & what age it might be, so I've posted some photos & I hope to hear from all those highly knowledgable carnival glass collectors out there. :)
Hope to hear from you soon, & mum is really looking forward to finding out more about her latest find! :)

Hi Marinka!

We change the pics to links in general so that the database isn't overloaded - it's not so much a problem now with the new host, but just as a matter of principle we try to keep number and size of images to a minimum.

I thought this might be Imperial Parlour Panels, but the shape is different, so over to Glen!

Edit: I take it back, I think it is Parlour Panels. Glen can add more though.

I believe that it is indeed Imperial's Parlour Panels, and that Cathy is spot on with her ID. The shape (flared at the neck) is unusual and very beautiful in this short, unswung example.

Hi Cathy!:)
Sorry about posting pics instead of links....haven't posted many things lately so I'm a bit out of the loop!
Anyway, it's great to get such a quick response! I was actually talking on the phone to mum, telling her I'd posted a question about the vase, & I was able to tell her that we already had a possible I.D on it! :)
As I'm not so knowledgeable about carnival glass, this has been very helpful.
It does look a lot like the Parlour Panels pattern!
Hi Glen, :)
I just saw your reply, many thanks for the confirmation on I.D.
It is indeed a beautiful vase. My mum was very excited about finding it.
