Topic: Is this an original Murano?

Hi all,

Can someone help to identify this piece?  It has no label, it measures 50cm across and is 12.5cm tall.  An approximate pice tag on it?

Don't take my word alone for it... hopefully somebody else will post... but... when I see pieces with horseshoe shaped features along the base like that I think they were made in Canada. There is a Canadian company that does similar work. The colors are a little off for murano also... It's still a nice bowl.

You're thinking of Chalet Glass I think?

Several of the bowls made by Fratelli Toso and Barovier-Toso have the horseshoe shaped under-bowl supports, so it is not a good characteristic for saying something is not Murano. I do not recognize the bowl in this post, so don't know if it is Venetian. It may be, or it may be from one of several other countries (e.g., Czech Republic or Canada). Does anyone recognize it?

The colours and shape don't look like Chalet to me, although the colours are hard to see against the grey background. How heavy is the bowl? Chalet weighs a ton. Anita is right about the feet. It's useful to remember that Chalet was made primarily by craftsman born and trained in Murano. In Canada, there's a fair amount of glass like this around, and not all of it Chalet or particularly high quality. I don't think it looks particularly like Czech glass either. What about Lavorazione Arte Murano? It looks a little like some of their glass.

Id say Murano.
I agree that the way its done looks different than what a Chalet piece would be.
The colors do have a lot to do with it.

In Javier Murano 101, would he have some help to figure out pieces like this as the difference in Murano, and Chalet glass....such as the colors.    Any help....would help
