Glass with no marks...
« on: March 22, 2008, 07:37:50 PM »
You'll have to forgive my ignorance, I have been collecting items over the years,  buying certain pieces because I simply liked them. Having enjoyed their company, now I feel I should catch up on their history, just as I have caught up on mine today, discovering my great grandfather worked at Smethwick's Chance Glass Works for 66 years, starting when he was nine years old. I think its called synchronicity.

If any kind soul can shed any information about the three pieces below I would be most grateful. There are no marks on any of them. The pink posy bowl and the art deco shaped blue wall vase have a frosted or sandblasted finish. The green glass of the posy vase is amazingly intense in color. I think they must have been made around the 1940's period... yes?

First one could be Sowerby, Davidson or Nazeing, c.50s-70s I believe all three companies made similar shapes. Wall pocket is by Bagley, looks to be a variant of the 334 'Grantham' pattern, introduced 1934 but produced for a long time. The final green cloud mushroom posy is by Davidson, mid to late 1930s. You should be able to find it on www.cloudglass.com.
