Another lucky find today - Perthshire 1974
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:27:57 PM »
Had a really good day's glass hunting today, and here's the paperweight I found!  It's a 1974 Perthshire weight with the date cane in the base http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10048/Perthshire_date_cane.jpg

I just love the colour of the ground in this one!  It reminds me of toffee!  :D

Can anyone tell me anything else about it?  I've not actually got much info on Perthshire weights ::)  ;)

According to the "Complete Guide" this is "1974D" - i.e. one of the limited ones (350 - only 334 made) in a single year only - as usual with different ground and cane colours (the picture in the book has a blue ground).
Description: "Garland"
A patterened millefiori design arranged in four quadrants and centered around a colored picture cane of a flower on an opaque color ground. Ground and cane colors vary. Signed with a "P1974" cane in the base. First Annual Collection weight with a colored picture cane."
I apologise for the spelling - it's an American book ::)

The complete info on that book is:

The Complete Guide to Perthshire Paperweights by Colin & Debby Mahoney and Gary &Marge McClanahan, Paperweight Press, Santa Cruz, California 95060. ISBN: 0-933756-24-0.

It's a must have if you are interested in Perthshire. You can probably find it for a reasonable price on eBay or on Amazon.

In my experience books are relatively expensive on ebay: all the ones I was interested so far I have found better offers on http://www.alibris.com/.

They don't have any good prices right now on buy-it-now but I do see one auction that starts at $10 and it's for two copies.  I see no deals on Amazon or Alibris at present. You just gotta do a search of them all every now and then and you'll find someone who puts one up for $3.00. I check Half.com as well.

Yes, cheaper copies may be found by searching the various auction and bookseller sites - and possibly waiting for international delivery.

But if anyone in the UK wants a copy quickly, Sweetbriar Gallery have them in stock. The softback version is £20 and the hardback £40. More expensive, maybe, but immediate access and quick delivery.
