Hi Jay,
I have one of these. It is called "Checkerboard Panels". Maker unknown, but thought to be European. Of course, kindly identified for me by Glen.  ;D
Enjoying being in the Midlands.......some people are just amazing....

I just want to draw attention to the star in the centre of the mould. It's much more intricate than the typical shape used for a base, making best use of the pressed glass technique. Perhpas this will help us to identify the factory, since it seems likely that the element would have been used in other pieces from the same factory.
The three-piece mould (i.e. 120 degree segments of the diameter) might be a clue, too, since I haven't come across it before!

Jay - my apologies at having missed this earlier (I've been away - some difficult times).

As Della wrote above, the maker of "Checkerboard Panels" is currently unknown. Your observation that the star base may suggest a maker is a good one. I agree, it is an interesting star. Of course, it's not likely to be a conclusive piece of evidence, but it's all good evidence.

Anyhow, my take on the matter is this: I've always felt that this pattern had a Leerdam look to it - but there is no proof. It's just my "gut-feel" but that's not "admissible evidence". Anyhow, your suggestion regarding the base star led me to consider other known Leerdam bowls, and I can say that the star base on the "Beaded Ovals" bowl (Leerdam) is the same as yours. So, we have more circumstantial evidence for the Leerdam case.

the item is also found in considerable quantities in this country, both in clear and in Marigold, both in round and in oval which should be another hint.

I have had a clear version of this bowl. Unfortunelty, it is not in my possesion but I do have a photo.

There was something about that bowl that said 'Victorian' to me. I can't remember if it had a Victorian registration diamond or whether that was on another plate or bowl (doh). I honestly thought this was one of the three (Greener, Sowerby, Davidsons) when I bought it but now it seems it isn't.  :o
