Murano lampwork paperweights, felt bases standard?
« on: May 03, 2007, 12:46:20 PM »
Hi,
The topic says it all ;D
I have two flower lampwork paperweights that have been attributed to "murano" or "Italian".  They have come from different sources at different times.  Both have a green felt base and it feels as if the pointel has been ground flat. Was/is this standard practice for a specific factory or for all or is it just one of those coincidences?
Sorry no pics at the moment as I am having problems putting them up at the moment.  If essential I'll try again later.
Thanks,
Karel

If the felt is green, it is not typical to put felt on the bottom of a paperweight at the factory level. The felt was probably affixed by a dealer or a previous collector.

However, if the felt is navy blue, the paperweight is probably made by Antica Murrina Veneziana, which does put this color felt on its pieces. However, there should be a silver sticker with the full name Antica Murrina Veneziana on it. But, of course, the sticker can always be removed.

Hi,
Thanks for the info!
Both are green (the same size though) and as there are no other markings...it remains a mystery!
