2 Iridescent pearl vases Czech?
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:33:25 AM »
My good lady purchased these 7" tall vases very cheaply on Ebay last week and they arrived this morning. Very nice pieces in very good condition. But are they Bohemion or British. can anyone advise please. I saw a similar vase recently attributed to Richardsons. They both have snapped pontils.

Any advise would be welcome.

From what I've been reading in my newly acquired copy of Gulliver's 'Victorian Decorative Glass, British Designs 1850 -1914' ;D I think it's possible these could be difficult to ID, because apparently several British glass houses copied Bohemian styles and designs ???

Unless of course soemone with more experience than me knows better?  :-\

Not sure whether this is going to help or not, but ...

According to the Great Glass site, it seems that Kralik made some pieces with that mould-blown texture and in a similar pearl irridescence, but those pieces also have green trails of various sorts (applied trail rim, peacock feather decor, etc). Apart from that, the shape looks very boho. I do know that the texture on your piece looks very like the texture on mine, which is almost identical to one on the Great Glass site (www.great-glass.co.uk). Doesn't necessarily prove anything, though.

Leni, what pages of Gulliver are you looking at? (And isn't it just the most fantastic book!)

Maybe Marinka can help! :) :)

(I just knocked a Krosno sherry glass off my desk, and caught it on the way down! Not bad after downing the contents...)

Oh No! You have done it now, that's just another book I am just going to have to add to my vast growing collection ::).
It certainly looks very Kralik to me but there are so many vases or bowls being listed on Ebay as Loetz, Kralik or Pallme-Konig all looking very much the same that it is very confusing.

You must be very young to catch that Krosno like that Cathy, although my wife would probably have got her tongue under the sherry before it hit the floor as well!!

Many Thanks for your efforts.

If you buy Gulliver, buy it from Amazon.com, much cheaper (good dollar rate) and delivery is usually in about 2 weeks (if in stock) because they actually seem to come from Germany

Hi Christine,
Thanks for that, I will sleep on it and decide tomorrow. I must cut out this impulsiveness some how. It really does seem a superb book though.
Cheers,

Bryn, is the decoration moulded, or threaded?

Hi Cathy,
Yes I've scoured that super site but whilst I can find similar pieces there is always a notable difference. One site that I found very similar pieces today was on http://hometown.aol.com/dlfd911/myhomepage/collection.html where on page 12 of the site there is a very similar albeit shorter vase called a Kralik Martele vase. I have found quite a few answers on this site depending on whether of course the web page info is correct and not a personal view.
Thanks,
Bryn (not Brian)
