Holmegaard candlestick or copy?
« on: May 09, 2007, 07:34:01 PM »
The colour and bottom of this worry me but it was cheap.  It is 8" tall and white inside cased with green.Clarification would help me. Thanks.

Hi Pat, my guess would be Elme (Sweden) - I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong though  ;D

Della (I think) had something not dissimilar with a German glassworks label - though I've forgotten which factory.  ::)

That would be Taube or Ingrid.

However,
I think the weak milky colour of the lining points at Chinese, as does the specific colour of green.

I've found that a few of the Scandi and European makers, especially Elme, produced cased glass with very weak white interiors. I've even got a couple of pieces from HG's Carnaby range with less-than-white insides.

Saying that, I'm not doubting the possibility that this vase may be Chinese - it seems to lack the wackiness of a most cheap 'n' cheerful Scandi cased glass of the 1960s/70s.

The one I have, Nic (or should I say had, I broke it shortly after taking a photo, although I still have the pieces) was made by Hirschberg, Germany. It too had a very milky interior.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Thanks for your input. I suspect european rather than chinese because it is very well made.

I wouldn't discount China purely on quality - I've some really quite nice quality triple-cased vases from China somewhere in storage. In fact it's better than some of the Elme glass I've had, which can vary wildly in quality.
