Blue grey vase - ID = Riihimaen Lasi Oy, Riihimaki
« on: May 15, 2007, 12:19:03 PM »
Hello
This vase has drifted into my life. It's not Ikea because the glass it 3mm thick. It's blue grey, but as my place is pale lemon, I find it picks up the colour at night and turns dark aqua.

Can anyone suggest an origin and date please? (Suspect the last 5 years - will not be distraught - some things are meant to be used - want to be sure.)

Thanks
Deb

I'm no expert on this sort of glass (or any sort really, in all honesty ::)) but this looks like Scandi to me.  Could it be Tamara Aladin?  :-\

Hi this is late 1970's Riihimaki (Finland), designed by Aimo Okkolin I believe (although the jury's still out on that - some think Tamara Aladin we've discussed these before).

I agree with with Leni & Pip. Riihimaen Lasi Oy, Riihimaki, Finland. I have not officially seen it attributed to any one person, so as pip says, the jury is still out.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

McConnell has it as Aimo Okkolin, pattern number 6012, designed in 1982.

Yes, agree with all said, should be either, should be either 15cms, 18cms or 24.5cms tall.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

OMG THIS IS SO EXCITING - I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.

I bought it for A$4 at a charity shop. It was FILTHY - took me an hour to clean it - but I liked what I could see of the colour. Despite that, was going to be sensible and sell it on ebay.

I didn't think things like this still happened!!!!! BTW, it is 24.5cm tall.

Hooray for glassmessages. Big hugs all round.

Thank you SO MUCH.
Deb :D :D
