can anyone tell me more about these paperweights please?
« on: June 06, 2007, 11:34:26 AM »
Hi everyone,

I bought these paperweights at a boot sale some time ago. I wondered if anyone could tell me more about them please. I wondered how old they are roughly, and if anyone knows who made them? Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou. Janet.

Hi again,
I can only assume, seeing as no one has replied to my post that these paperweights are either so rare that no one knows anything about them, or they are so common that no one can be bothered to reply...mmmm i wonder...I'll keep on trying to find out more though as its the only way i'll ever learn.  This may seem a silly question but what shape would you describe them as? snail shaped or conical is the only way i can think of describing them.. :)
Janet.

Well I've been away since before your post. I do not know much about paperweights however I have not seen anything quite like these shapes before. I would tentatively suggest that they look modern. What are the bottoms like, rough or polished or what.

I thought I'd seem something similar before but I don't know where. They're not overly common. It's possible that the right people haven't looked yet. Base photos would help as Pat says.

Hi Pat and Christine,
Thankyou so much for your reply. I know very little about paperweights so forgive my ignorance. I have never seen anything like these before but for some reason i felt they might be quite old, maybe the shape makes me think that, i dont know. Here is a photo of the bases. They are ground down but not polished.
Thankyou very much,
Janet.

hi janet, i would describe the shape as abstract, and i don't think they are very old. they just have a modern look about them.

kindest regards theglassnut...

Hi glassnut,
Thankyou for your reply, i have been trying to find out more about these weights by searching on google but i was finding it really difficult to describe them. When i entered 'snail shaped paperweight' i got all sorts of results! ha ha.
Kindest regards,
Janet.

hi janet, instead of searching for a shape you might have more luck searching for glass artists and looking on their websites for paperweights. but try british studio glass artists first then if no luck look overseas. but i have a feeling they are from the uk.

kindest regards theglassnut...

Hi, www.farfieldmill.org scroll down to select artist, select Sanders and Wallace, you will find your blue shell, hope this helps.

Edited to add, select e-shop first.
