Stourbridge Label
« on: June 17, 2007, 04:45:01 PM »
Does this label mean anything to anyone?

I can make out Stourbridge at the bottom but I can't read anything else, no matter how I try.

Thank you very much!

Lynne — Fascinating.    I'm certain that it says "FINEST ENGLISH CRYSTAL" in the centre.   On the left is ??WE and on the right TT?   Perhaps "T WEBB & CORBETT".

What is the label fixed to?

Sorry Bernard, I've been out auctioning all day, just seen you had left a reply on this topic.

The label is on a cut glass lamp base , egg shaped with a metal frame to the top - I'll take some pix of it for us.

I have two almost the same, except for the cutting of the bases, one has the label the other just a note on the bottom that it is Webb Corbett, so your suggestion is on the button for what was suggested.  To be honest, I expected to see a Webb signature, so I had actually discounted the original name!  How daft can I be!

Thank you very much!

Lynne — You've an awful lot of catching up to do in the GMB daftness stakes — you're not even up to the first fence!   My Beecher's Brook (the first time around) was my ridiculous stance on cloud glass — I don't think anyone has surpassed that yet!

Daftness is one of the regular hazards of venturing opinions.   What we all need is a little hindsight.   The first to bottle and sell hindsight will make a fortune.

a bit of forward vision combined with a lot of hindsight.....

Lynne —

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
 Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May;
 And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
 And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
 By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
 Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest,
Nor shall Death brag thou wanderest in his shade,
 When in eternal lines to time thou growest;
  So long as men shall breathe, or eyes can see,
  So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

W. Shakespeare

I only go poetic with those for whom I have the greatest respect, and then not very often!
