What is the best Murano piece from your collection!?!?
« on: May 10, 2005, 07:51:12 PM »
Hi Everyone!
It has always been intresting to me to know what people collect and how they collect. I am all over the place myself, having many smaller collections within my Murano collection, but I did consider 1 piece to be the one that told me I should collect. That piece is the "Svazzo" bird scultpure by Barbini which is now used in my logo, id, etc. Before seeing that piece I really had no focus, I was collecting overall Blue Glass, and some odd pieces, without really thinking of collecting "Murano," but when I saw that piece I not only needed to have it, but knew it was meant to have it, lol.

It would be great for all of you out there to post that 1 piece or maybe that 1 artist that made you think, ok this is right for me! It was Barbini and his bird for me. How about all of you?
Hope to see some great photos!

Well, for me I suppose it has to be a paperweight

This one I know is definitely from Murano     http://tinypic.com/51d6wl

Although if we were 100% sure 'Bernard's tazza' was Murano, I suppose it would have to be that  :D  http://tinypic.com/51d8k3

Look, Max!  Green!  Not Pink!  Green!

Hi Leni,
Is that an early paperweight? Do you know the maker?
I just started to collect many of the Fratelli Toso paperweights, going by what is in his book. Nothing as intricate as yours.

Well, a while ago on the Paperweight site we had a discussion about this weight, and Kevin thought it might be "one of the "few" that came from Vetreria", or made "by Ferro & Lazzarini,... but with canes by Moretti".

Apparently lots of glasshouses use/d Moretti canes, so it's difficult to get a precise ID

This is my favourite piece, it's similar to Campanella I think.  It was disputed that this was Murano actually, perhaps Javier can say for sure one way or the other?   :?   Sorry if you've seen this pic before btw.

Boy this was tough. How do you pick a favorite? I have so many and decided to put them in categories. I am going to start off with my favorite murano birds. http://tinypic.com/53oegg  I love the color and also the proud carriage they display.

This has to be my favorite color combination http://tinypic.com/53oe51 this is by Alfredo Barbini. The lable reads "Venetian made by Alfredo Barbini for Weil Ceramics and Glass Murano Italy. A large piece it measures about 11 X 12 inches.

Now this is my favorite Murano Basket http://tinypic.com/53oec4 again the color is fabulous and the controlled bubbles, all lined with gold, it just looks so rich.

A Murano Collection to me should have at least one Fratelli Toso water splash. http://tinypic.com/53oevo I actually have two, but this one really stands out.

As with any collection I think, there is always one piece that you are not sure of. Is it Murano or not? http://tinypic.com/53of2u I love the shape of this and the color and as I said, I am not sure if it is murano, but still a favorite.

Hi Terry!
I am sure we can expand the topic to have a favorite of each artist, or a favorite example of animals, baskets, vases, etc. I know it is hard to decide on 1 piece that is a "favorite."

Thanks for the pics! Great pieces. I am a Barbini collector so I too love the pieces you posted by him. Maybe you didnt know, but the Blue Basket is also Barbini. I have 3 of them :D Orange, White and Blue.

On the Pink Compote or Tazza, I am not sure if it is Murano.
The foot and stem look mold made, and I really havent seen one before, so maybe someone can help you with it on the Main board.

Oh, the ducks are great too :)

I have to add my wow to Cathy G and to Ray. Now I have something to look for since I do not have a decanter. My hat is off to Svazzo, I admit to using your site to help identify my pieces. Recently I purchased a bowl that could have been AVEM but with your site I discovered it was actually a Dino Martens. Hopefully more will share pictures and we could even have a category called "What were they thinking?" This could cover a multitude of areas including most bizarre, strange colors, and even weight. I have one bowl I purchased with three birds as a set. The bowl weighs in at 9.5 pounds. To me that is a serious pc. of glass. Looking forward to more pics and fun, Terry
