Can you help identify this vase ??
« on: April 04, 2005, 08:02:38 PM »
I have to admit that my knowledge of glass is extremely poor, and I would really appreciate some information regarding the vase as pictured.
The vase stands approx 19cm tall and is made of a 'milky' beige coloured glass which appears to have been blown rather than pressed. The floral pattern is hand painted and could be enamel paint. If you think you can help, or know of somewhere I can get advice, please let me know.

That's odd - I thought I gave a response to this one. But obviously not.

I think it's a regular late 19th century "Bohemian" piece, of a type that is difficult to pin down to any particular maker. The rim appears to be cut flat and finised with gilding - quite typical for Bohemian work, although some English wares of the period looked very similar. Also the enamel decoration seems typical for "Bohemian" as well as the dark colour of the opal glass.
