Satinised Egyptian Queen. What was she part of?
« on: June 27, 2007, 09:47:58 AM »

Hi all  ;D

This lady was obviously part of something and I presume that she had something under her feet and something above her head. I can't find anything similar, so I thought that I would pick the brains of all of you.  ;)

She is 260mm tall and very heavy.
TIA
Della

She looks like a bottle or decanter top.... ;D Im thinking she may be Nefertiti if that helps with a future search.

Thanks Trudy & Tony  ;D

I still haven't found anything similar under Nefertiti, Trudy. I think that at 10 1/4" in height she is a little large for a bottle stopper though  ;) ;D

She must have had a base though, and a top. There are remnants of gold paint around the edge of the protruding top piece.  ???

I will keep looking.

Della, I was thinking part of a chandelier or something?  Chandeliers often have interconnecting parts, so it's a possibility perhaps?  :)

I have to admit, it'd be a very exotic chandelier though!

Hi Della, because of Howard Carter and the discovery of king Tut's tomb, in the 1920's people were fascinated with all thing's Egyptian, i think your figure was a table lamp with the base missing and the top would have maybe held a glass globe, but i'm probably wrong as usual  ::)

Hi Della,
how about a comport stem? That would account for there being fittings at both ends of the figurine. I can imagine this figure as the stem or columnar support for a very chic deco style comport.

Hi Max, Sue & Marinka   ;D

Well, Annelies says lamp, I thought maybe comport, but never thought of chandelier.
When I saw that Sue C had replied, I got really excited, because if it is out there, Sue normally finds it, or something similar. I am still very grateful for all of you input  :D

Hey Della,

I suggested the bottle stopper because of this one that I own...

As you can see its quite tall...and the base on yours was what reminded me of this one too..same base that looks like it fits in a bottle neck. The one I have is Murano, maybe they had an Egyptian series too! :)
