Orange Playboy Ashtray
« on: August 15, 2007, 12:44:01 PM »
I have a small slumped glass ashtray from the Playboy Club - it's not rare or anything, I've seen them around but I like the very 1960s looking Bunnygirl in the centre and the bright orange and black print - so I bought it.  I was wondering if David - or anyone else - knew if these were Chance or not - I'm not sure since it feels a little thick.  I'll take a piccie of it later (I promised to take my daughter swimming at my gym today so I'll do it on my return).  TIA.

I know the one you mean (does that mean I'm getting obsessive ?) ;)

I can't be sure, but they probably date to the 1970s. If you have the size that will help (but not always) and the thickness if possible. Chance and Fiesta used a uniform 3mm glass for these trays, and this is quite common for virtually all slumped ware, so a thicker glass might indicate another manufacturer (Houze, Duro-Ray, etc)

These pop up very regularly on ebay.com, so I wonder if they're American?

I am not a man

Could be - in this case Houze is a good bet for maker. I do also see them on ebay.co.uk as well (though not that often), so I suppose they shipped them into the UK.

Thanks David & Max - I've just remembered that I forgot to photograph them  ;D  Will do it shortly (and give measurements as requested).
