Thank you, moderator (Frank?) for changing the title.
I have heard from Steve Adams, who has provided me with a good bit more info, and is happy for me to pass it on here.
Sue,
Yes, I am sure you vase was made by George himself. He was a
professor at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington and
for many years he taught jewelry, sculpture and glass blowing. I
worked with him in the early 70's and he helped me to get started.
He was an inspiration to a great many students who he mentored and
many have become well know in their own right. I have always had the
highest respect for him. The sculpture plaza in front of the WSU art
building is dedicated to him. You might get more information from
WSU. I have a booklet from the final show he had there in 1975 and
here are some scans from that publication...

George usually worked alone, doing everything by himself and yes, the
picture is of him working in 1975. Learning from him, I too have
always worked alone. Back then we didn't know better. Most
glassblowers usually work in teams. He was teaching full time so he
didn't produce very many pieces that made it to the outside world.
Most went to family, friends and locals.
You are free to ad this info to the archives...

I am unsure how to add the scans of the leaflet - I've downloaded them to my pc.
From the info there, I found out he went to america when he was about 7, not 5.
