I understand that Brychta was head of the figurine dept at ZBS until 1960 and designed most of the production until then. He died 1971 btw.
I have seen one of these the other day on the big antique market in Milano with pretty convincing Barovier stickers - but I am not quite sure what that suggests.

Ivo,
Possibly that they are now also being made by B.A.G. (which is owned by Barovier & Toso), in the Czech Republic.

Marcus

Sorry Marcus not very likely. I am quite au courant with the BAG production and stickers (having had the guided tour of the exhibition stand).

The Item I handled in Milano had 1950s-1960s Barovier foil and paper labels.  Plus, it was on a Huntsman statuette - identical to the one I  have owned since before BAG was founded.

Lynne, yours reminds me of Dickens' Mr Bumble, the beadle, from Oliver Twist.

I thought that he looked very Dickens-ey!

I do wish that he actually was mine....  :(
Thank you very much!

Hi, just an information up-date to this thread.
In the early 1920s the four principal companies involved in the production of these type of figures were Kleinert, Lubas, Bárta and Halama.
Some of the production for the latter company, was designed by Stanislav Halama, (particularly musicians) just before the company was nationalised, becoming part of the ZBS narodni podnik. (Translations from Hlaveš, M. Skleněné figurky – práce studentů SUPŠ sklářské v Železném Brodě, MSB Jablonec, 1998.

Marcus

This figure is the night watchman.   Smaller villages had the night watchman to see that all is well.  I've seen newer versions of this guy and others that are older!!  I have an older one in my collection.
