Webb Coronation vase thingy, for Master Glaziers who are they?
« on: September 08, 2007, 06:01:04 PM »
Hi all,

I have finally got my computer up and running again after the wireless fisaco, don't ask but involves 13 year old daughter  >:D.

I purchased a job lot of glass on Thursday and this was in the lot. Its by Webbs (its signed on the base Webbs Coronation and a large posh crown) and is really beautifully engraved with all the National symbols, thistle, acorns, rose, shamrock and two tiny leeks, on both the front and the back

But its the writing around the foot that has me confuddled, it reads The Worshipful Company of Glaziers,

now sorry to sound really stupid but who or what are The Worshipful Company of Glaziers  :-\  and why would

 they commision a vase/trophy thingy?

Read the PR version here

In reality it was a mechanism to ensure that the wealth returned to the pockets it came from. An early form of Cartel.
