Hi Sue,
According to Ivo's little book, GA = Gustav Abels. at Orrefors 1915-1959.
I can't find much information (in English) about him.  ::)
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Hi:

Your piece was designed in 1933 by Simon Gate and was part of a production series of twenty four different designs in the style.

The G = Simon Gate the A equals polished design.

Hi Bill,

How can one differentiate between the GA of Abels and the GA of Gate - Polished design?
Is it all down to knowing their individual styles?
I actully find it quite confusing
Thanks,
Della

Hi:

Hopefully, I can clear up the confusion.

The signature used at the factory had Orrefors (Designers name or assigned initial  ie. Gate G or Hald H), initial for the type of production and on the engraved pieces the initials of the engraver, or the initals of the master glass blower, a number and sometimes the date.

After the early 1920's, I think they dropped including the glass master and engravers intials on the work. Gustaf Abels was a copper wheel engraver with fantastic talents
producing the Bacchus Bowl and many important pieces for the 1925 Paris Exposition.

I have not seen any work where he was designated as a designer.
