Murano 101: Murano Labels!!!
« Reply #60 on: August 27, 2005, 09:20:27 AM »
Three labels below.

The first one says VB Opaline Florence Made in Italy

I haven't a clue what the next two labels say     as they are worn....but I thought I would post them in case they can be identified or maybe help in any way  :?:

The label below is on a large colored vase. The only letters I can make out are REIO

This label is on a blue and green ashtray.  All I can make out is MADE IN ITALY.

Ref - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/glass47/sticker.jpg - if it helps this label is an import label - the importer is 'G Hardy & Co' who imported Aseda (Sweden), Kosta, etc as well as Murano glass...

David, these labels were discussed earlier, but thanks for expanding on the theme.

Margaret, this looks like the middle of the word FOREIGN to me... there appears to be an N after the bit you are reading as REIO and what looks like an O before it. The O in REIO looks like a G to me zooming in on the image - it has a faint but visible cross bar of a G. Hope this helps. :)

Ohhh   Anne

I think you are right, it looks like the word foreign and here I was thinking this piece was Murano   :(     I have posted a pic of the vase below.  It has a totally flat base and stands 10ins high and weighs approx 4lbs.

Oh well....I like the colours in this and it sits in nice with my other vases and ashtrays.

Thanks

Margaret

Javier, It would be an idea to make this topic a sticky so it stays at the top of the forum instead of dropping down out of sight. :)

Also, I've created a Labels album on GlassGallery so that labels we identify can be saved for permanent reference, so if anyone wants to add their labels or marks to it please register in GlassGallery and add them to the album.

This is the only sticker I have. Is the photo good enough? If not I can take another.

Hi Shanbeat & Welcome
The photo is fine but rather big.
Perhaps you could crop it down to just the label for this purpose.
For a free image editor try Picasa2 ...its very easy.

Additionally this label is the subject of debate in another topic.
It's not yet clear if items carrying this label were actually made in Murano.
It's possible that they were made elsewhere in Italy or indeed in Venezuela !

To preserve these images for reference I've saved them and will upload them onto the GlassGallery Labels album over the weekend. Otherwise we will lose the valuable info we have gathered here as the images fall off their respective image hosts, e.g. Tinypic and Photobucket.  If anyone objects to having their label image/s held on GlassGallery please let me know as soon as possible and I'll not include them.
