Murano 101: Murano Labels!!!
« Reply #80 on: January 17, 2006, 04:47:11 PM »
Della gave permission to post this beautiful Nason vase with a label not often seen (see thread http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,3882.0.html)

I think this is a good place for any comments on the label - good source for name of the range 'Avventurina' - style of label, date, etc.

Thanks Della for letting me post this here

V.Nason would appear to have evolved from VNC and Veritable Opaline de Murano, who were in business from 1967. The following label is taken from a vase; note the gold 'N' in the red circle on the left that probably signifies 'Nason'?

  click to zoom

Here is the vase, along with another:

The vases are 24cm and 28cm tall.

Really enjoying the research and debate into Nason and hope that will keep running

Meanwhile I thought I’d post a couple of labels onto this thread – I keep on forgetting what a valuable database it will become. These are both my pieces

Large ‘Formia’ cat c 1992 - http://www.formiaglass.it/inizio_eng_formia.html I love some of their more recent animals, they are so quirky yet beautifully designed, factory been running since mid 1960s

Label – clear plastic with white lettering

Vetreria La Fenice atomizer with mezza filigrana decoration, factory been running since 1977 http://www.vetrerialafenice.com/link/cat.html c mid 1980s - 90s they still specialise in perfumes and have a fantastic range of glass

Any other ‘Formia’ and ‘La Fenice’ labels down the ages

Two pieces I sold but kept the images

A Murano Elephant (medium size) clear glass with aventurine – label ‘Made in Italy Murano Venezia’ don’t know the company or importer but it’s a modern piece
I thought the shape looked a bit like these Formia elephants Formia Glass

A large 14” Murano Sommerso Vase with canes and aventurine to base, a beautiful item that sold well – label ‘Made in Italy’ – with ‘Murano’ in scripts cutting through label at an angle – label colours gold and green c 1960s

No - just an illustration of rose type flowers in a vase/jug.
I've had two or three of these in the past, but this is the first with a label.

Hi,
Not sure if this counts under the murano labels heading, but this label is deteriorating fast and I thought I would take a picture of it before it goes completely.  This vase was bought in 1965 (probably from Bath) as a 21st birthday present for a friend of mine.  She no longer wanted it and passed it on to me knowing I liked glass.  The label reads Montrose Made in Italy. with a picture of a rose.  The writing is silver on a red background.   It is 33cms (13") tall and has quite deep vertical ribbing  inside, although it can be felt very slightly on the outside.
I've hunted unsuccessfully for any information on Montrose, but am asuming it was the name of the distributor or importer.

:D:D:D

Hello, I'm a bit late getting to this thread! I recently found a large long-necked duck, in green and gold, with a sticker on it. The sticker is the same as the third one illustrated in the posting by Jim Sapp, a shield shape in blue, with Murano along the top in silver, then a rectangle of yellow/cream colour, surrounded by silver under it, and a silver bird on the blue under that. I can't tell if there was writing in the rectangle or not. The bottom right hand corner of the label is missing - if it hadn't been for Jim's illustration, I wouldn't have known about the silver bird.

Does anybody know the maker that used this label? Perhaps the fact that it's attached to both fairy lamps and sommerso gold and green ducks might help?

When we get a new camera (I dropped the one we had, bent the zoom lens and it won't work) I will post a picture. Promise.
Cheers, Sue (M)

Taken from Murano forum - ref G Hardy Italian label

So these are Italian after all!!

I know, you all knew that anyway, but here is irrefutable proof ref a label.

The vase is 20” in height and has a subtle spiral moulding to it, white twisting stripe.

http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tallitalianstripe2si.jpg

I have seen loads of these and thought mmmm – but this has a G Hardy label on it, one I have not seen before saying ‘Italian Art Glass’ – not Venetian …

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/2253/label86lu.jpg

My dealer has loads of these in different colours and shapes - he has a decanter (cracked) with a different importers label on – looks like Seguso but without the apostrophes to Italy.

So knowing bit of the G Hardy history I would say this is 1960s / 70s but who by and is it Murano?

Thanks
