Murano Vase? - Who's Signature
« on: September 24, 2007, 04:59:35 AM »
Hi

I am new to this site and although I have about 10 pieces of Murano I dont know a lot about them.

I am researching this vase for a friend of mine. Does anyone know anything about this piece? The outside appears acid etched or a similar process.

It is 180mm (7") high
235mm (9 1/4") wide
weighs 3kg's or 6.6lbs

He has another piece of Murano I am dying to get and would like to post that here for information as well.
Clean and Crisp a Murano twist.
Archimede tops my list.

The finish looks like battuto -- a process where the glass is cut to make a pattern such as the one on your glass. I am not sure it is Murano. I do not recognize the signatures. Several non-Murano companies made battuto pieces. I suspect your glass is from another country, maybe Scandinavian (big question mark on this, because I know very little about Scandinavian glass).

I believe it is Arcade Glass , a contemporary Italian glass company, high quality - not rubbish.

Here is a retail site that features some of their glass.  I think the artist may be Ivan Baj, very nice indeed.

Lynn this is almost certainly it as there is a piece called Nicolo that is very similar.

We are delighted and hope not to bog the site down with too many requests.

regards from Down Under.
