Topic: Sowerby 3-legged dolphin bowl

Can anyone help me with extra information about this piece of glass. I managed to identify it as a piece of Sowerby from the mark which is a raised peacock? The bowl sits on three legs which are in the style of dolphins and is a watery blue colour. I'm having trouble dating it as i understand that this pattern was originally used in 1882 but then used again at various times up until the 1930's.
I'm not sure if i'm allowed to ask about value ..  but i will anyway  :angel:

Hi Rosalind and welcome to GMB - a few Sowerby people who may be able to help - Glen and Bernard to name two - but a bit early for my era of collecting. No harm is asking for a value, but the best answer is to list it on eBay and see how much it sells for

Rosalind — the colour is very much one of those introduced c.1930 for Sowerby's Tynesyde glass, not one of their late C19 or early C20 colours.   Had it been pink, it would have been the same era, but Sowerby's named their variable Tynesyde pink Rosalin, Rosalind!

Value is tricky, as David said.   However there are possibly more variations in colour (and shape) in the dolphin bowl than in any other Sowerby pattern, so scarce colours could attract a premium, whatever their date.

The pattern number is 1544, which dates the pattern to 1880.

Hi Rosalind I would not like to say for sure if late 19th century or  1930's, I belive some of the 1930's one were made from a different mould which were not marked with the Sowerby trade marked and had a scroll pattern on the inside, they were also made in a carnival glass colours and  a number of various shapes, if I had your bowl I would not expect much more than £30.00 /£35.00
