Wide bowl glass with spindly stem
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:20:34 PM »
I found three of these so I'm assuming drinking glasses rather than candleholders, especially as the inside base is dipped rather than level (although that'd work for a ball candle!)

The colour is a sort of dull greyish-green, the glass is thin but doesn't feel delicate as such, although those stems worry me a little!  Dimensions are as follows:
height 4" (114mm), bowl diameter 3⅝" (92mm), foot diameter 2⅝" (68mm).

The foot isn't flat below, it is slightly domed to where the foot meets the stem. The bowl rim is rounded and fire-polished. They are very grubby and in need of a good wash!  :-[

I'm sure I've seen these before, but cannot think where, and can't find them again online. Does anyone recognise them please, or suggest a maker or a place to search for info?   ???

I know Boussu did something very similar - in dark green. In any case, it would be 1970s.

Boussu... that's a new name to me Ivo, thank you. I'll go investigate more!

replacements.com only have 3 patterns listed as Boussu: https://www.replacements.com/crystal/BUZIMG01.htm which isn't very helpful, but I did find an image here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jollypollypickins/5096640015/ with glass with similar colouring and stem shape... what do you think Ivo?

There are a lot more, but likely those were not for export to the US. I have several in this modernistic but unpractical design vernacular - tapered foot, flat bowl just made for slopping champagne all over the place.

What a criminal waste of champagne, Ivo!  :t:

Hmmm yes, not wildly practical are they? :)  The way the stem attaches to the base on mine isn't the same as yours. On mine the curve continues right round to the side, but on yours it seems to be flat. Is yours made in 3 sections Ivo? Mine seems to be all one piece with just the foot added...  but I'm well out of my comfort zone with these things!

The stem is worked out of the bowl and just the foot added. The whole thing is so uncomfortable both to make and to use that I can well understand the company went under.
