Iittala iittala.....Labels
« on: October 27, 2007, 09:34:48 PM »
I have 3 candleholders and a glass to go with it, the glass is the same color but with no identifying marks or sticker, does anyone know of a good site for iittala past and present? I feel almost sure the glass belongs eith the candleholders as it is the same colour, but the glass is thinner than the candleholders, still good quality glass though, also does the newer glass from iittala have marimekko on the bottom? I see that the iittala site shows you the basic form but does not tell or say what is on the base. Thanks. Sue

Marimekko is a Finnish textiles company. If it has that on the base then it was probably a piece of corporate giftware - given out to clients or employees at Christmas and that kind of thing.

Marimekko appears to be a range of bowls http://www.finnishgifts.com/glass-maribowls.html. What do your candle holders look like? There also appears to be a link between Iittala and the Marimekko design company

Well that'll serve me right for straying out of my Danish glass safety zone.  ::)

Kivi candle holders have been made for Marimekko since they first came out, but they're also in the standard Iittala range - in which case they have an Iittala sticker, and the word Iittala on the bottom.

Kivi was designed by Heikki Orvola in 1988. Cobalt still seems to be a current colour so unless you have the original packaging as here I don't think you are going to find out. NB the dates in the link are the pattern design dates
