Sometimes it is next to impossible to figure out who did a piece. The wars and the opening and closing of companies played havoc on glass industry records. Often even the life-long experts can only offer that the glass was probably made by this or that company.

I have had many curious pieces of glass that I devoted a year or more to trying to identify. I ended up no closer in the end to identifying them as when I started. There may have been a picture and information somewhere, but finding it would be more a matter of luck than research. I am more comfortable than I used to be about not being able to identify the maker. I think it is okay to say it is Murano that may be by this or that company. People interested in buying the glass will understand the difficulties distinguishing the work of certain companies (e.g., Salviati, Barovier, Ferro, and F'lli Toso in the early years). The only thing I really don't like to see is someone misidentifying the maker of a piece in order to get a better price.

Hiya Beth,Hiya Anita

It does look just like the bowl.I sent an email to the seller yesterday morning asking, well OK,pleading for their help regarding the book but there's been no reply as yet.
I contacted 3 other specialist websites. One replied on Monday requesting an image to be forwarded but there's been no conclusion yet.No reply from Barovier & Toso either but I'm sure they get hundreds of requests for IDs.I am patient though and perhaps I'll hear something sooner or later.
Still toying with the idea of buying the book from Amazon as I'm still convinced there is a picture of it within those elusive pages but I think you're right Anita, perhaps I should just bite the bullet and stick it on the net with the info I have so far.

Thanks again everyone.Your input, insight and help is greatly appreciated  ;)

Elaine, what do you think about sending it to the auction house that sold the one like yours? I would think maybe, you might make more $$ then auctionong it on ebay. Also, if you do use ebay, I would defintely have a reserve. Is it against ebay policy to list the item number in your description? Maybe, if you could put in the item number then folks would see yours in a different light, they could do an ebay search by just putting the numbers in the ebay box and click search? What ever you decide, best of luck to you!  ;D

Hiya Beth,

I think I may have found the book! British Library website throws up a copy in the search....when you leave out the inverted commas.Doh! I'll give them a call Monday.See if they can help.

BUT,it is Saturday tomorrow and I'm in a kind of listing stuff mood so I might just get it online with a little dinky reserve and perhaps on the US site instead of the UK...not sure yet.If no-one bids then that's OK,I'll just keep it for a while.I've got some fantastic return customers and lots of really lovely feedback (TIP:Appropriate, surprise free gift for your buyers that compliments their purchase!) so perhaps it will do OK.

Anyway,I've got half a tonne of tableware to shift before then.Gawd, the stuff you end up with from boxes of 'odds' at auction, simply to get one piece at the bottom of it,is just unbelievable! And this has been going on for Donkeys Years...my shed is stuffed to the doorway. It positively bulges  ;D

Thanks again Beth for your Best Luck Wishes
Elaine

Many thanks Javier,

I've got a tonne too but not an ounce of what I need at the moment.Do you have the Barovier book? I really hope you do as it's without doubt the one I want.
Too much auditing today and much listing inbetween,so the library call was shelved...so to speak.
It's an active eBay item now with immeasurable gratitude to Anita,Beth & Rose noted.Sometimes we all need a wee push but, being a bit impetuous,to eBay it went.I've only listed for 7 days so when it ends I'll be Pogoing with countless geriatric punks at the SECC Sex Pistols revival...(What a laugh ;D I can't wait!) and, providing my profit covers the cost of an ice-cream in Male Airport in 6 weeks time,my Christmas-Avoidance-Scheme will be complete and I'll be quite satisfied.
It's been running since last night as a Featured Item; It's got a good amount of watchers and...a 99p bid LOL!

It still has almost 5 days to run... !!! Why fret? Serious bidders often don't want to show their hands too soon

Just a momentary lapse of reason  :o
