A label for you lovely folks & French-Italian duck?
« on: October 31, 2007, 12:35:39 AM »
I did not see this label on Murano 101, so please feel free to use the best shot.  The duck is 5 1/2" by 6".  The interesting thing is, engraved on the bottom is "TOUR D'ARGENT".  This is the name of a restaurant in France, famous for its duck dishes.  Any opinions are welcome!

Karla, thank you for the label. I've added it to the Murano101 album on our GlassGallery here:    http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-8590 with a cross-reference back to this topic.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

There is a picture of a similar duck on page 155 of Leslie Pina's Archimede Seguso. The legend says that it is "a colorful sommerso duck on molded clear base, made for the famous French restaurant, Tour D'Argent, which was given to diners when they were served their renowned duck..." So, apparently it is an A. Seguso design :-)

Thank you, Anita!  Hmm, wonder what a duck dinner costs, lol.  Something tells me a lot!

Thanks again for your help.

I imagine that the ducks didn't cost the restaurant a lot. We just pay a lot for them now. :) Pina wrote that the duck in her book has a value of $300-400. The duck in the book has its bill closed. Your duck, with its bill open, looks like it is smiling. I like your duck a lot more. Maybe Seguso designed several different ducks to encourage customers to come back to collect the entire set.

Thanks again, Anita! It was preordained that I post that bird here & you answered: 'Argent' means silver, lol!
