Topic: Nice find at Gaydon....... Amber Whitefriars goblet.

Hi,
 This goblet had been with the dealer for many months, and had been picked up and handled so many times. There were 2 problems - First the malformed foot and the was it Whitefriars?
 I had seen and thought about it at a previous show but was not sure, I talked about it to some other dealers and they thought it was probably Webbs. Anyway in the end I bought it just before I left because there had been so much work in the stem and it displayed well.
 I have now looked in my Whitefriars factory photo albums and sure enough there is a photo in the Domestic 1-185 ( 1935-37 ) album.

Hi Patrick.  You've got my fingerprints on it.   I thought beautifully made, probably Venetian, almost certainly unattributable, and the fastest way of losing money known (apart from all the other dreadful mistakes I've made).

So I put it back.   Was that you both Janet and I saw later examining it very closely for what seemed hours?

Brilliant discovery.   I'm golden-amber with envy.

Hi Bernard, Yes I did spend along time but was finally helped by the dealer kindly accepting my offer of £45.00. By the way forgot to say it stands 9 " high.
