Could this be Murano ?
« on: November 18, 2007, 04:37:36 AM »
I have a piece I believe to be Murano. Can anyone help me identify this ? It is huge and VERY HEAVY probably 20 lbs. ! Measures almost 19" tall and about 7" at the base. There are no markings, signatures , or labels. Thanks in advance!

Hello!
Great piece!
I believe it is by Salviati. I have a similar piece on 1 of my books.
Is it available for purchase?
Let me know!

Found the reference i was looking for, and it is actually Barbini.
I thought had seen it as Salviati, but its Barbini from the mid 60s.

I am not sure which mark you were referring to, but all that I saw were random marks and overlap of gold foil. You are the lucky one who won this beautiful sculpture?? Congratulations! It is quite a find.

I am referring to what looks like a block letter to me on the gazelle hip. Maybe a block B or E  ..... The marks on the back could be random gold flecks ?? Look at the close-up !
I actually did not win the sculpture, but I am the owner of the current  E-bay auction.  It is an awesome piece and a rare find!

the gold leaf inclusions are decorative and not a means of marking. Barbini pieces are sometimes signed/engraved and, more often, have a sticker identifying him as the maker and, most often, not marked at all. it is truly a beautiful piece. i don't know that i could part with it, were it mine :) i hope you get a fair price for it.
