What's the name / designer of this candle holder / bowl?
« on: November 18, 2007, 05:02:30 PM »
A while ago I posted a picture of a flower shaped candle holder / bowl on behalf of my mother-in-law, which Della kindly identified for me  :-* However, I can't find the thread!

Anyway, today I found another similar one, clearly in the same range I would think, which looks like Cow Parsley :D and I wondered if anyone could remind me of the maker, and tell me the name of the design?

Sorry my memory is so bad  :-[

Thanks for reminding me, Della.  I had actually posted it elsewhere, which is why I couldn't find the thread!  :-[ ::)

It's Finnish and by Lasisepät - but who designed it I wonder?  And is there a name for the range?  The other one was this flower:

I really don't know, Ivo. I can't remember who it was that posted a link to one with a label. It might have been Christine.  :-\ I wrote it down and tagged my photo with it, straight away (as I had an identical one).
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Hi,

I think it was me. I bought the following bowl, with a Lasisepät label:

http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-3335
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-3334

Having looked for more information on Lasisepät, I found a Huuto.net auction for Leni's flower bowl (not the cow parsley one) with a Lasisepät label - at that time it was Christine who was trying to ID the bowl.

However, there is a complication. The bowl I found is similar to the Ravenhead 'Flair' one in this thread:
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,3909.msg30476.html

It's only speculation but perhaps Ravenhead licensed the design (or vice versa).

I've seen several of the flower & cow parsley bowls in charity shops in the UK, perhaps too many for them to be Finnish  :-\ Perhaps Ravenhead or someone similar made them too.

All I was able to find out about Lasisepät is they were in Mäntsälä (from the label  ;) ). Pretty much all the items I've seen have been of the moulded / centrifugal cast type variety. Here's a few more:

Thanks. We see tons of these dishes on each and every market, in various sizes, so I suspect they are made by a volume producer, not by a small outfit.

I have the "Suomen  Lasi Elää"  (Finnish glass lives) catalogue from 2005, and profiles for all glass industries and designers are listed in the back. Nothing in Mäntsälä. So they may have gone under, or moved out.
