Topic: What kind of vase is this? Italian? Czech/Bohemian? Canadian?

I feel like this could be almost anything (Murano, Chalet, Bohemian, etc), so I would really appreciate some help in pinning down the origin! The form has an Italian look to me, but the way the different colors are applied (rather than sommerso) doesn't. Also the beveled edge on the bottom doesn't look like the Murano bottoms I'm familiar with. It's about 11 in tall.

Hi,
Probably, initially by Teplicke Sklo, Mstisov, which, when absorbed following the closure of that factory, the workers continued to make at Karlovy Vary, many designs of which, were by Frantisek Zemek, and labelled "Karlovarske Sklo Moser".

Wow Marcus, thanks so much for your response! I have never heard of any of this...Do you think you could give me an approxiamte timeline for production, and/or some good sites for research in this kind of glass? I'm completely unfamiliar with it.

Hi Shannon,
Zemek worked at Mstisov 1956-59, and some pieces were exhibited at Expo '58 in Brussels. Zemek died in 1960, at the age of 45. These items continued in production at KSM for quite a long while after his demise.

Thank you both! I have looked through some of Marcus' site before, but I gather it is mainly about pressed glass, or am I mistaken?

True, my current site developed as a mainly pressed glass site, but I am studying all production glass in Czechoslovakia, during the communist period, with a view to further book projects over the next five years. If you aren't sure about something, send me an email.

Marcus, that is really excellent. It seems little is known about Czech glass of that period (at least that seems to be true in my area). I think I'll hold onto this vase for a while, because I feel this area of glass may be somewhat unappreciated as of now. Maybe your books can have an effect on that.
