ICET Venezuela, Lavorazione Arte Murano & Cristalvi
« on: June 30, 2005, 04:14:40 PM »
Following up on Javier's comment about this company ICET in another post, and the "Arte Murano" label having cropped up in another group I thought it would be interesting to see some of their work so that we can learn to differentiate.

I have only found a couple of links.
This one (unusually ?) has an acid etched signature!
http://www.liveauctioneers.com/auctions/ebay/111719.html

The only indication here is the picture name (arte%20murano.jpg)
http://www.jomarie.com.au/Contactus.htm

and their official logo
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v489/avalonsmile/logo-icet.jpg

Luciano Nichetto
was (one of ?) their glassmasters from 1977-84 when he returned to Murano.
So this company was operating in 1977 if not before then.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the info! They also did acid etched signatures.

Seller says :
LAVORAZIONE - MADE IN ITALY - ARTE MURANO
so now I'm confused ....
Is Lavoratzione a maker or a word which means something ?
And if made in Italy then it can't be by ICET in Venezuela

Terry,

I'm led to understand that many 'Murano' labels are simply stuck on by the dealers and shop owners in and around Venice. They can also be seen on Chinese & East European imports...

But I would have thought glass positively dating to the 1970s is more likely to be genuine.

LAVORAZIONE - MADE IN ITALY - ARTE MURANO

What to say about Lavorazione, the label on Granny's vase is c1999 - 2003, and it is cheap or was - in this country anyway - I got these two bits from my dealer as new TK Maxx items for £5.00 each - see link

There is an older label as this is a company that worked in the 50s and 60s in Murano - if you search on eBay you can see an array of older pieces - but not this guys or mine - Lavorazione translates as Work or Workshop

Its authentic Murano made - I have seen it in Milan and Venice and it's not all that cheap! It is actually really well made (ishhh) - it's cased and has some weight to it - it is no longer a TK Maxx deal anymore so who knows what the future holds for it - here is a link to a piece being sold on eBay at moment dealer admitting its brand new

Here is a picture of my two bits - in blue - the bottle is 17" high so they make big

As for the original item in the thread - what was it again....  :oops

Thanks Adam for the Lavorazione translation.

This thread is about  ICET Venezuela !!!!!
Who use a label marked "Arte Murano"
So more potential confusion then ...and I admit I am more confused than ever ....
Is there a company called Lavorazione Arte Murano
or
do we translate Lavorazione Arte Murano as Art of Murano Workshop(s) (ie various contractors) Italy (but not Murano ?)

Hmmmmmmmm

Sorry to confuse the thread I was just picking up on the post showing the label 'LAVORAZIONE - MADE IN ITALY - ARTE MURANO' - just ignore my post if it confuses - I have read the body of the thread and see what we are trying to get at with the company ICET - I can tell they have nothing to do with 'LAVORAZIONE' - style and design is different

Gable's Murano Magic (publ 2004) lists getting on for 200 Murano company names (many are different names for the same company).
Nowhere is Lavoratzione, Arte Murano, Christalvi or Cristalvi mentioned.

However it could be a new company ....they seem to spring up on a regular basis BUT judging from the number of hits for "Lavoratzione Arte Murano" labels from all over the known world I don't think so.... Or it just got missed out....or not considered important ....
or
it just means "Art of Murano workshops"

Christalvi = no hits
Cristalvi = seems to be an old or alternative spelling for "cristalli" which just means crystal.

Just to muddy the waters some more Peter... I've found Cristalvi... in Casandrino, Napoli (Naples)!  See this: http://www.glassonline.com/wgid_CristalviSrl/index.html

Arte di Murano has a sister company based close to Naples... that's the reason of the confusion
