ID help - Mdina paperweight?
« on: December 02, 2007, 01:23:45 PM »
Can anyone help with this "sea urchin" paperweight?  When I bought it, I thought it was Mdina, but now I am uncertain.  the colour of the ochre is much more yellow than the ochre in my other Mdina.

It is unsigned, smallish polished base.  Glass is rather greeny yellowish.

Diameter just over 3 ins 80 mm.

I can't find anything similar in Mark's Mdina/IOW book.

Thank you very much!

Lynne, it does look very like a Mdina to me.  Mdina yellows vary quite a bit.  Sue was telling me the reasons (in eye-glazing detail  >:D ) at the Dulwich glass fair on Sunday.  However, I recently saw one like yours which was ID-ed as something quite different - however, I can't remember what!  :-[

You need someone else to come along and tell you whether it's definitely Mdina.  I'm afraid Sue's ME means she is likely to be flat out for a while after the stresses and strains of the trip to London and the Glass Fair.  She wasn't even able to celebrate her 'special birthday' tomorrow, but went straight back home :'(

Oh the poor lovely.  I do hope some rest will bring her back to normal.  It is a terrible thing ME, the slightest thing needs to have energy saved up for, and then the saved up energy doesn't last anywhere near enough to get over the exertion...  I really feel for her.

Anyway, thank you so much for your input Leni, I shall just sit on this and wait and see if anyone recognises it.  In the meantime it joins my Specials (the ones I am putting off selling because I like them too much ;D  -  I am waiting until the bank balance screams at me! ) and will be much admired over Christmas I expect.

Thank you very much!
