Check it's Czech! - ID = Peceny for Hermanova hut'.
« on: July 03, 2005, 06:52:29 PM »
I've been buying lot's of Czech (well, what I assume to be Czech!  :?   ) recently.  I'm really enjoying the turquoise and emerald greens that they do so well.

Here's one 'op-art' clear vase I bought today, and a particularly nice turq one I purchased last week.  Both vases have a deep well to the base.  The clear vase is 7" and the turq one 6".

Can anyone confirm these are Czech perhaps?  And can anyone recommend a book on modern Czech glass?

Thanks!  :D

Max,
your blue vase, what size?
This is one of Frantisek Vizner's earliest designs for Sklo Union. Hermanova Hut, Plzen. around 1962.
Size should be around 20cm high.

A nice purchase.

Re books, oooh you naughty girl, fancy not taking note of the reviews.

Ricke ed; Czech Glass 1945-80, Arnoldsche, 2005.
Antonin Langhamer, The Legend of Bohemian Glass 2003,
Petr Novy, Lisovane Sklo,
Petrova, Czech Glass, 2003
Petrova & Olivie, Bohemian Glass, Flammarion, Paris 1989
J Raban, Modern Bohemian Glass Artia, Prague, 1963

Not sure of the other piece, probably Czech/Polish, but not come across it anywhere else. Reminicent of Vizner, but the design does not ring bells.

Regards,

Marcus

Thanks Marcus

Sorry I hadn't read the reviews...all those difficult names and places, it's just really hard going.  I should have taken more notice - sorry!

What I need is a book with lots of lovely pics of modern Czech glass in.   Not just the high-end stuff, but run of the mill production pieces that we are likely to encounter on our travels.

I'm not great at remembering facts, but gimme a picture and it embeds much more easily into my addled grey matter!   :D  :D

Thanks Marcus - I bought it!  Yippeee!  It'll take up to 8 weeks for delivery though - can I wait that long??!!  :D  :D

I'm really thrilled with a vase I received this morning.  Deep emerald green, internal vertical ribbing and external horizontal ribbing - it's FABulous darling!   :D  :D

Yarrrrrr...I don't have the blue one anymore, but I do have the op-art type one somewhere...probably in the shed of doom.  I'll get it out tomorrow and add it.   :)
