Tri - Colored Bowl ??
« on: December 18, 2007, 07:12:29 PM »
Hi, Just got this, and wondering if anyone has any ideas on this at all.  There does seem to be at least three different colors here.  I think pic three shows the other color at the edge...then there is also another color inside the bowl, like a green.  Very heavy...as you can tell.

Thanks in advance  ;)

The two areas I'd research first are Chalet of Canada ( used many glassblowers from Murano) and Pilgrim.  They made a line mimicking the Chalet glass.

Looks like Murano glass?

I purchased (won) this bowl (maybe it is an ashtray)......and the grapes, and the other bowl (with bubbles) at a *Thrift Store Silent Auction* they were having before Xmas to raise $$$$$$.

I hope I did OK on the three of these....

If nothing else, I guess I contributed to a worthwhile cause....in the Christmas Spirit  :)

Chalet is very heavy, but usually signed by sandblasting. There's a really interesting thread at http://www.canadiandesignresource.ca/officialgallery/?p=594 by some people connected to Chalet. The gallery that did  a great deal to promote Chalet was the Michel Blais Gallery in Vancouver. Their internet site has a few examples, but I'm not sure how totally reliable the site is. The url is http://www.mblaisgallery.com/home.html  I heard a rumour that a book was to appear on Chalet, which would be very useful.

Your bowl doesn't look like Chalet to me, but I'm certainly no expert.

Thanks David....the quest is still on.  You need a little crane just to lift this one...

If you hear anything more on a book on Chalet glass, that would be great to see.

I too (??) do not think it is Chalet glass - but then what do I know.  When I first saw it, I tended to think Murano glass...but, then....I am an idiot when it comes to figuring glass things out... :-\
