Iittala shot glass - pattern ID help needed please :-)
« on: January 02, 2008, 02:05:28 PM »
Hiya everyone - Happy New Year!

My first glass query of 2008, I've got two sets of Iittala shot glasses - the ones in the first photograph I've managed now to identify as being the 'Kalinka' pattern but the ones in the second photo I've had no joy tracking down, I originally thought they might be 'Aslak', I do have some 'Aslak' tumblers but they don't seem the same - I dunno I'm confused!  Any help hugely appreciated as always.

Hi Pip,
I can't find this design in the Iittala book, or in any other book that I have (although the photos in the Iittala book are really tiny).
Try sending an email to Iittala. They were incredibly helpful to me when I had a query.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Doesn't look like Aslak as shown here Pip: http://www.finnguide.fi/Finnish_Products_USA/Arabia_porcelain_kitchenware.asp?c=126&p=2019

This pattern is a totally new one on me, and I can't see it in any of the Iittala pages in GlassLinks...  will keep looking. :)
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

I couldn't find it either, Anne and I was looking the day after Pip posted. I couldn't answer at the time as I didn't have my books in the UK with me.

Thanks for looking Anne - yeah they're definitely not Aslak I agree (I've got some Aslak tumblers).

Hi Pip,
I've a photo of a boxed set of these but unfortunately it doesn't show any details. The front of the box it just has "i-Lasi" and the Iittala logo with a photo of the glasses. The boxed Iittala things I've had often had the details on the end or side. I'd guess the typography is c. 1970s. Not much help I know  :).

If that's "Iittala 125" I know what you mean! Such a pity the publisher didn't make the photos even slightly larger.

Hiya Robbo  ;D

Yes, that is the book I mean  ::) And, yes, bigger photos would have been extremely helpful  :)
