Milk Glass Crown Crystal Questions For Cathy
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:01:23 AM »
I have a milk glass berry bowl that I am sure was made by Crown Crystal Australia. I would appreciate confirmation  on this please.
It is not deep MG all over. The fruit patterns are  a very thin layer so you get   transparent sections. This is the first time I have actually come across a piece like this.I know CC made Milk glass items and have seen some of those but this is the first I have seen in this pattern in MG and with this effect.
Are these very common elsewhere?
And am I right in assuming there would be  a master bowl as well. And were all  the other fruit patterns  (strawberry, grapes, etc) down in MG.And were the jugs in the fruit patterns done is MG as well?
Full of questions aren't I?   :D I am curious that's all, And   I want to add to my collection,  the fruit patterns by CC
Thanks for any info that you can provide me.

Hi Julie,

Ah, these! They are fascinating, aren't they. They appear in all four of the fruit patterns (I have nappies in Apple & Cherry, Grapevine, and Strawberry), and I've been told they have been seen in full berry sets (masters + 6 nappies). There's some controversy over whether these are Crown or not. They're from different moulds - note that they lack the fruit pattern on the base. The effect is nearly opalescent - if you hold them to the light, you can see the fire. They could have been a special order or a brief experiment, or they could have been the model for the Crown version. I don't know which.

Maybe some of the other pressed glass enthusiasts might recognise the pattern? If no-one does, then perhaps that's evidence for them being Australian. For the moment, it's a mystery.

Sorry about the delay! I'm just into the final months of my studies now, and what with the holidays and all it's been a bit busy.

Hi Cathy,
yes I did notice  the opalescence and fire. But I totally missed the lack of fruit  pattern on the base..silly me. ::)
And to think I have plenty of the CC master and berry bowls, in green and clear glass, packed away in the cupboard to compare with.
Thanks so very much for the reply. So I have  another mystery piece to put on my "mystery shelf." ;D
BTW I hope your studies are going well for you
Julie
