Hi. A very unusual piece.  The coloured twists remind me of some of the elements of Venetian scrambles from the late 19th century...and the canes could be Murano too.  But I have not seen anything quite like this before.

Hi Mildawg,

I believe that this probably by Gentile circa 1970's. The Gentile's used exclusively Murano canes in their work and similar scrambles carrying a Gentile mark are known.

For canes (murrine) of similar colours and design, see:
http://www.effetremurano.com/millefiori%20opachi.html

These canes have been produced by Effetre (and previously Moretti, I think) for a long time and have variations in colours but the general themes remain. Whenever the cane appears which has a cog-type structure but with the end of each "tooth" formed with four points, then look to Effetre as the source, who sell worldwide.
