Venini paperweight designer ID...
« on: February 15, 2008, 07:50:56 PM »
Hello,

another piece that I'm trying to correctly attribute before offering, again I cant find one just like it. I'm guessing it would be described as a pillar weight, interesting canes, can anyone put a designer to it please.

4cm high, 5cm diameter, 3 line acid etched mark

Might be better off in the paperweight section, but thought I'd try with the experts first  ;) [mods please remove this last bit if moved]

many thanks...

What makes you think it is Venini? Is it signed? Laura de Santillana did a series of plates in the late eighties (I think) that had similar minimalist canes in the centre of a deep coloured ground, and this does remind me of them, but it's not my field....

Hi Adam,

Yes it is signed with the 3 line 'venini murano italia' acid stamp used circa 1946-66 but too faint to show in the pics. I know the Santillana pieces, there's a pot in one of my catalogues with a very similar top but this is earlier.
