Bird (Seagull?) on sea swell made in Murano--Help
« on: February 17, 2008, 05:31:03 AM »
Hello, I am new here...I put this post also under "glass" but thought maybe I should post it here. I found this forum while searching for information on a "figurine" that I have. If anyone can help me, please do!

I have a glass "figurine" although it is much larger than your standard figurine and might be actually called something else.

It is of a bird similar to a seagull with upstretched wings on a sea swell. I bought it back in 1982 or 1983 from one of the collector companies, such as Franklin Mint but I'm not sure that was the one. At the time I had a certificate, I do remember, but I've moved from South Carolina to Minnesota to California to Georgia and don't know if I still have the certificate. This was purchased on installments.

On the bottom is a circular sticker, reddish color with silver lettering and a circular silver band on the outside perimeter of the circle, the lettering says "Made in Murano Italy" and underneath the sticker is etched into the glass the letters and numbers B.R. 83.

I notice a few tiny air bubbles in the body of the bird. There are a few very tiny scratches maybe? on this figure, hard to notice, but there.

From the base of the "water" which rolls into a swell on which the bird "sits" to the very top of the bird's upstretched wings the height is approximately 16-18 inches. This piece is heavy and very stunning.

Can you shed any light on the value of this piece and/or where I might go for any history on it, or any details?

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

Welcome to GMB.

A photo of the bird and, more importantly, one of the label would help considerably. However, you might be able to spot the label here:

Thank you for the replies.

Over on the label link, I found a couple that are almost exactly like mine under Murano 101.

Today I will do my best to get some photos taken of this item and of the label and post them.

Thanks again in the meantime...

Well, I've just tried to post pictures and although I thought I took low res, the message says the file is too large. I'll try to post one at a time.

This is the label. Underneath you can see the etching B. R. 83.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Johnphillip,

Thanks for the reply...I have one or two front photos that show outstretched wings and perhaps a better wave. I am trying to download to my computer now so that I can post but am having trouble.

What was the value of yours? And/or any ideas on the value of this?

Thanks in advance.
