The Vincent Ysart vase is a unique and special piece of Vasart glass that was made with love by Vincent Ysart as a birthday gift for his wife Catherine in the 1950's.

The vase was acquired in the 1980's from Vincent's widow, by Frank Andrews, co-author of the book Ysart Glass (published 1990); it was featured on the jacket of the book and in most of the press reviews when the book was launched.

Now it needs to be sold and, ideally, this unique piece should be held in a museum collection for everyone to see and enjoy, preferably in Scotland where the item was made.

The Perth Museum & Art Gallery would like to buy this vase and a price has been agreed subject to them obtaining the necessary funding. They will need support from glass collectors and enthusiasts to help raise the money.

By making a donation to the Perth Museum to help pay for this vase you can ensure it is available for anyone to see and enjoy in the future. All payments will be refunded if the Museum are unable to raise the agreed amount.

If you would like to contribute the person to contact is:

Hi

I'm one of the Directors of SpecialistAuctions.com where Frank is offering the vase for sale.

I spoke to Perth and Kinloss Museum about it on Wednesday and on Thursday sent a press release to The Scotsman, The Sunday Times, The Observer, The Guardian, Telegraph and The Scottish Daily Mail asking them to publicise the fact that the museum would love to buy it but don't currently have the funds.  I also spoke to Frank and asked for his consent to release his name and contact details to the press which he gave.

It is my sincere wish that this historically important piece ends up somewhere that many of us will have the opportunity of visiting and of viewing the vase.  To this end I have suggested that we will happily charge zero commission on the sale if this helps the museum to obtain it.

regards

Bob

I have posted a more general theme in the Cafe:

where people can discuss this in more detail.

Two queries for Sandra at Perth:-

Will a list of donors be kept, so that, for example, proud donors can take their grandchildren to see the vase and their name in the book?

and, following an email I had today,

Can appeal donations be made by US$, Can$, Euro, or any other currency check/cheque?   If so, to whom should the check/cheque be made payable, and where should it be sent?   It would be pleasing to find one of the Perth banks supporting this appeal by waiving their fees for such a service (and getting their name in the book!).   If not, how can overseas donors contribute?

And, Sandra, I can't telephone you as my hearing aids don't work well with my telephone.

I am pleased to announce that the Vase is going to the museum thanks to the results of this appeal, the donation of the balance of the 2005 conference fund and two grants arranged by the museum. I will be delivering the vase in May subject to travel arrangements.
