Help needed, red bowl with gold
« on: February 18, 2008, 02:13:38 PM »
Hello, I rescued this nice bowl from terrible livingconditons at an antiques fair,
where it was sitting next to other glass, rubbing shoulders so to speak.

I'm pretty sure it's a Murano piece.

Can you tell me anything about possible makers?

About 17 cm / 6.5" long and 12cm / 4.5" wide (inches very approx)

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Yes, circa 1950s Murano glass, maker unknown.

Very pretty!

That narrows it down , I'd have thought 60'ies ;)

It really is a nice piece, it has a little scratch to one side which almost kept me from buying it,
but the rubble it was sitting with would have scratched it all up in a weekend so I decided
a rescue was in order  :)

Is this kinda generic Muranoware?

Thanks

That's very nice. Even if the maker isn't know, I'd say it's better than the average Murano bowl.

Yes this the typical "generic Murano glass". I know at least 20 master glassmakers working on these kind of items. Few names for contemporary production: "Geremia" Mattiello, Gianni Seguso, D'Este, Alberto DonĂ , Vio, Mian, "Sciocca" Amadi
Anyway everyone has his own "touch" (thickness, shape, small details) and if I have the piece in my hand at 80% I can recognize who is the producer. So in some way, they are less generic than what they look in a photo.

Sincerely

Alex
