white intaglio handkerchief - rounded tips
« on: February 29, 2008, 11:52:18 AM »
I have a large white intaglio hanky - checking it for photos, the tips are slightly rounded, maybe the sharp ends have been taken off.  Would this be done at the factory or is it more likely afterwards?

And the size seems to be approx 6.5 ins to the top of the points, approx 10 ins across.  I thought the larger ones were 7 ins tall, is this within the realms of hand made differences?

edit: just realised, I was measuring from tip to table straight down, if I measure along the actual glass, then vase is 7ins so ok there...

Thank you very much!

Lynne

I know Christine.. and I want a copy....but (see my 18th century glasses thread) I have just spent about
£70 on reference books.... and I only have one hanky, so David's will have to wait until next reference book spending spree.......

and thank you for the reassurance about the tips... I was starting to worry I had bought a pup...
Thank you very much!

Ahhhhh but Lynne, it covers so much more than hankies!  >:D  Seriously, it is well-worth having as it covers pressed glass and well as slumped glass, and all sorts of things which you'd never realise were Chance, as well as info about the designers themselves and their influences, all of which helps understand the whole subject more. (And the tons of photos are drool-worthy too!)   8)

No sadly I bought a HUGE pile of drinking glasses, so the March budget went on the Bickerton and Percival (and some replacement Charltons for the porcelain)... but it is April, and I am about to buy the Chance book now... even though I can't get it second hand like most of my glass books!!!

Thank you very much!
