Stiver Glass from Italy - some patterns
« on: March 09, 2008, 10:38:51 AM »
Here are the most confusing items from the Stiver catalogue discussed elsewhere.  Stiver has been around since 1952; they moved from Poggibonsi to Colle Val d'Elsa in 1981. The pressed glass items we now find confusing have been in production since circa 1965.
- the quality is very high
- colours are infinite
- some items were actually modeled after existing 19th century pressed glass (Baccarat for instance)
- there are various items in a line: goblets, plates, decanters etc.
- finishing techniques include acid polishing and frosting
these lines have the names leonardo, tiffany, liberty, medici

... It looks as if Gilead's tazza could be from Stiver's Diamante suite, and the wavy-edged black one from their Leonardo suite.   Their various goblets / rummers look familiar as well. ...

Thanks Ivo.   Very useful.

Readers can click on the quotation header above for the link to Gilead's original query.
