Uranium Glass Bowl Made in Belgium
« on: March 14, 2008, 03:44:51 PM »
Hello, just wondering if anyone can help with an ID (maker, date or pattern name), for a Uranium Glass bowl marked to base - Made in Belgium?

Kind regards, Natalie

Welcome to GMB.

Dave or Christine should be able to help, but clearer shots and one of the base should help ID it quicker.

Sorry, I have never seen it before.  IF you plan on listing it, be sure to include the non-UV photo, which is just as important as the glowing one.  People differentiate in their collection between green uranium glass and yellow uranium glass.

Possibly Val st lambert ??
A well known Belgian glass maker. Not sure its there style, but they did everything, and made glass
for other companies, such as Wagon Lit. Maybe a night light? How big is it?

I would expect a VSL mark, rather than just 'Belgium'.

Thanks for taking a look, David E and Andy.

I am not the owner of this bowl... just trying to find an identification of the maker for the owner, (who does not want to sell). I have only seen the photos, not the actual item and guessing the size from the original photo, would suspect it to be approx 7-8inches across.

I had hoped that someone might be familiar with the 'Made in Belgium' mark, as I have had no luck in my searches.

Kind regards, Natalie

No it is not VSL but unable to say with any degree of certainty who did make it. I have a matching floor vase and I have a hunch that it is Boussu - but not more than that.

btw VSL is not always signed or marked

I've seen this in a light (non-uranium) green too, which might be a clue that its production could cover 1935-1950.

Ivo: It seems to be generally true that 'Fait en Belgique' was more common before the war ?!. All the examples I have of the English mark ARE from VSL (or poss. VSL patterns cloned in Bohemia).

Do you know any Boussu pieces with an export mark?

This would appear to be an etched export mark? Never seen this before!

Never seen any markings on Boussu (OR on Michotte, OR on Gobbe) at all; and rarely on any other glass. The only maker who regularly signed anything was Scailmont - is it too late now to switch allegiance?
