Roy: Your gater is shown in Cyril Manley's book, DECORATIVE VICTORIAN GLASS, color photo #271. (quote) "This is an opalescent crocodile made at Richardson's with hand moulds. The body is moulded, but the tail is pulled out whilst hot. Only intended as ornaments, c. 1890. The mould was purchased by Thomas Webb, c 1935. 14.6 cm (5 3/4") long." (end quote).
I have owned one of these. even with a badly chipped foot, I sold it for $250. I have seen them sell for $400 USD. You should do well with this one! Size can vary from one specimen to another, due to the pulled tail. There is usually a little roughness on the tail, but that is how it was made. They pulled the tail, then snapped it off.
